Is Carly Being Recast on GENERAL HOSPITAL? — Laura Wright Speaks Out!
When news broke that Laura Wright had caught COVID, many viewers immediately wondered if Carly would be recast on GENERAL HOSPITAL, even if only temporarily while the actress was required to isolate as she recovered. While there has been no official announcement from the soap or ABC, Wright herself reassured her fans via social media not to worry.
“I’m good,” she promised a fan who hoped she was feeling well. “And we are on break right now so I’ll be good when we start shooting again.” In fact, Wright has also been tweeting about a series of fan events she’s doing with co-star Cameron Mathison (Drew) at the end of August, so it sounds like everything is still on schedule!
During a planned hiatus from filming, Wright enjoyed a family vacation in Colorado with real-life beau Wes Ramsey (ex-Peter), and shared a bunch of fantastic photos from their adventures in hot air balloons, horseback riding, white water rafting, and more. Unfortunately, on July 8 she shared on social media that their “amazing vacation” came to a decidedly less-amazing end as they tested positive for COVID.
GH has had many temporary recasts over the past months, most recently with THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS alum Robert Adamson (ex-Noah) stepping in as Michael when Chad Duell for reasons that were revealed to be COVID-related. Thankfully, like all the casts and crews of ABC/Disney shows, Wright is vaccinated against the virus so hopefully, her symptoms will remain relatively mild and her recovery quick.
And hopefully, she’s timing this out correctly so she’ll be healthy and cleared to return to the set as soon as GH resumes taping. Because Carly is really in the middle of a big mess right now, and it would be unfortunate if the storyline had to be put on pause while Wright finished her recovery.
In the meantime, Wright and Ramsey are resting and binge-watching TV. “Lots of TV time while we are on the couch with COVID,” she tweeted. “Yes, still feeling bad. Right now we are finishing MIDNIGHT MASS. Crazy!” They also just finished the most recent season of STRANGER THINGS, so if you’ve got some more Netflix recommendations for the pair, you might want to tweet them!
