Is General Hospital Recasting Lulu?

There have been quite a few big returns on General Hospital lately, and a new casting notice for the soap could mean another one is on the way because the character it describes sounds an awful lot like Lulu Spencer!

TV Insider is reporting that GH has put out a casting call for a character they’re calling “Lauren” (fake names are usually used for casting notices, particularly to disguise potential recasts). The character is described as “34 to 40 years old and a blond, white woman” who is “beautiful, dynamic, and fiery. The character has overcome challenging circumstances and is now stronger and more determined than ever.”

Well, having been in a coma for the past few years would certainly qualify as “challenging circumstances” and the rest of the description does sound quite a bit like the character of Lulu. In a recent episode, Laura and Dante visited a comatose Lulu, reminding viewers that the character is still out there. Could they be setting things up to finally wake her up after all this time?

Lesley Lu Spencer was born back in 1994 and played by a series of child actors until Julie Marie Berman stepped into the role in 2005. During her years in Port Charles, the actress won three Daytime Emmy Awards, two for Younger Actress and one for Supporting Actress.

After Berman left GH in March 2013, Emme Rylan, who had previously played Abby on The Young & The Restless and Lizzie on Guiding Light, stepped into Lulu’s shoes just a few weeks later. But in December 2020, the character was written out when Lulu was injured in an explosion and fell into a coma.

Rylan has previously said that she would be happy to come back again. “I have made it very clear to GH that I am always available to play Lulu should she ever want to wake up,” she assured fans back in August 2023. But if this casting call is for Lulu, it would seem that the soap is intending to recast again. Of course, it could be for an entirely new character who is actually named Lauren after all.
