When GENERAL HOSPITAL star James Patrick Stuart released his 2019 album, The Apple Tree, it was meant as a tribute to his father, Chad Stuart, best known as one half of Chad & Jeremy. And his second record, Clean Slate, released on July 15, also contains a very special nod to his late father, though that wasn’t the initial inspiration for it.
“There were a couple of songs floating around that didn’t make it on the first record that I wish had,” Stuart revealed to Soap Opera Digest. One track, in particular, titled “Look Out Below,” was what pushed him to put together a second album. “That song needed a home and the rest of the songs just started to grow around that.”
Stuart originally planned to release Clean Slate last December but put the project on pause due to his father’s failing health. But after Chad Stuart passed away on Dec. 20, he left behind a very special gift for his son, an unfinished song that the GH actor’s stepmother passed on to him. “My father’s love affair with his wife continues from beyond through that song,” he declared. “It’s called ‘Another Time’ and it’s about as amazing as you think it would be, about a guy who’s facing the fact that he’s going to have to leave, but he definitely sees them together another time, whatever that would be.”
The songs on Clean Slate are all very personal to Stuart, including one with a special GH connection. “There’s actually a song on there that I covered called ‘Always Love You,’ a song from a father to a daughter which I dedicated to my brother and his daughter,” he confided. “But any GH fan is going to realize that I put it on there because of young Scarlett [Fernandez, Charlotte] and because of our connection on that show and because she’s as important as any co-star I’ve ever had.”
