James Ryan Is the New Ethan on GENERAL HOSPITAL!

Yes, that’s a new Ethan on GENERAL HOSPITAL! ABC has confirmed to Soaps In Depth that the character is now being played by actor James Ryan, who made his debut at the cliffhanger of the April 17 episode of the soap!

The character of Ethan Lovett was introduced back in 2009 and was played by Nathan Parsons, who earned a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Younger Actor for his work on the show. Following his exit in March 2012, the actor returned to GH in April 2013 to be part of the soap’s 50th-anniversary celebration, and then again in July 2015 for the exit of his TV dad when Anthony Geary (Luke) left the soap. He also returned for a few episodes in September 2020 when Robert and Olivia were in Monte Carlo looking for Holly and ran into Ethan.

When Holly returned in the fall of 2022, it was revealed that she was being forced to do Victor Cassadine’s bidding because he was holding Ethan Hostage. After faking a near-fatal injury to get herself out of the villain’s clutches, Holly headed off in search of her son. And in the April 17 episode, Felicia caught up to Holly in Venezuela where viewers saw Ethan for the first time in years!

Hopefully, Felicia and Holly can rescue Ethan, although at this time, there is no indication as to whether or not Ryan will be sticking around GH or if he will be heading off with his mother when Emma Samms wraps her latest stint at Holly.
