Anyone who knows anything about how soap opera storylines work could have predicted that GENERAL HOSPITAL would eventually bring Holly and Luke’s son, Ethan Lovett, back onto the canvas. This week’s surprise recast with newcomer James Ryan taking over where Nathan Parsons — who originated the role in 2009 — left off was a well-kept secret. And now, Ryan’s new TV mom, Emma Samms (Holly) is opening up about her new co-star.
On the day that Ryan’s first full episode aired, the GH legend officially presented Ryan to her social media followers in a sweet Twitter post. “So, I’d like to introduce you to James Ryan, who plays my son Ethan on GH,” Samms tweeted.
The daytime vet also heaped high praise on the soap newbie. “He was a joy to work with, well-mannered, professional, and talented,” Samms continued, adding that she felt an instant kinship with the young actor. “Plus, as a bonus, he reminded me of my own son, Cameron!”
Having hit the jackpot as far as TV parents go, Ryan seemed to be just as enamored with Samms as she was with him. “Thank you so much, Emma,” he replied. “It was such a pleasure meeting and working with you. I couldn’t have met a nice, warmer, and talented person than you.”
After Ryan’s introduction through Samms, he began interacting with GH viewers on his own, thanking his new followers for the warm welcome and admitting that Ethan’s Australian accent is legit. “I’m from Brisbane,” the Aussie native revealed.
Ryan also admitted that making his debut in scenes alongside Samms. Kristina Wagner (Felicia), and Jane Elliott (Tracy) was a “highlight of my life.” He responded to Wagner that “that was such a great scene with you three” and also shared that the trio of Port Charles veterans “are some of the warmest, nicest people you can have the pleasure of working with.”
However, Ryan didn’t divulge whether he will be sticking around GH or if his run on the soap was limited. Either way, we wish the newcomer good luck and can’t wait to see what he brings to the storyline!
