Spencer may not have been particularly pleased to see Cyrus in Pentonville but many GENERAL HOSPITAL viewers were… and portrayer Jeff Kober was thrilled to be able to bring the baddie back to the screen.
“It came up by someone saying, ‘Hey, come in to work,’ and I said, ‘Okay.’” the actor told Soap Opera Digest of his return in a recent issue. “In the story, they moved Cyrus to a federal prison that was as far away from Port Charles as they could get me, but then they brought me back to Pentonville, and then they put Spencer in prison so that I have someone to interact with! And Cyrus is trying to protect him because he’s [his] grand-nephew.”
And Kober believes that Cyrus is genuinely trying to help Spencer survive his prison sentence. “It’s interesting because really, all signs point to ‘Cyrus has changed,’” he said. “Of course, he probably hasn’t, but I believe that he actually is trying to change. But he’s got a little pent-up rag in there and it comes out, so we’ll see where it goes!”
Cyrus made quite an impression when Kober joined the cast of GH back in February 2020 as the newest villain to cause trouble in Port Charles. However, the later reveal that he is Laura’s brother gave the guy some family in town so he has stuck around a lot longer than everyone expected in the beginning. And the actor is happy to reprise the role whenever the soap calls on him.
“I’m actually going to Texas for a couple of weeks and when I come back, I’m doing three more episodes right off the bat,” Kober revealed. “Hopefully, it just keeps going because it’s such a fantastic place to work and I just love the skill set that you have to call on to do that work. It keeps me alive in a way that other jobs don’t.”
