Josh Kelly Remembers His Fallen Friend on Memorial Day

Tags:

As a former member of the military, GENERAL HOSPITAL actor Josh Kelly (Cody) shared a very personal memory on Memorial Day this year. He shared a photo on Instagram of a bracelet around his left wrist bearing the name of Specialist Kristofor Stonesifer, his fellow Army Ranger who was killed in action in Pakistan on Oct. 19, 2001.

“Not sure if I believe in fate… but I think about it a lot,” Kelly admitted. I’m only alive because I came in second place to this guy. I would have been where he was if I was better back then. Our last conversation was about how ‘lucky’ he was to sprain his ankle and get pulled out of pre-ranger school, to deploy with us to Afghanistan the first time. If he hadn’t, he would have been in Florida the day he died.”

Although Kelly initially considered becoming a Navy SEAL, he instead chose to join the United States Army and served three tours in Afghanistan and one tour in Iraq as an Army Ranger. After leaving the military, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career.

Although he currently stars as Cody Bell on GH, Kelly is well known to many soap fans for his 2010-13 run as Cutter Wentworth on ONE LIFE TO LIVE. The actor has also appeared in two Transformers movies, 2009’s Revenge of the Fallen, and 2011’s Dark of the Moon, as Stone, a member of the Strike Force Team.

“I was able to name my character in Transformers 3 after him, and I wear this bracelet every day as a reminder of Kris’ sacrifice,” Kelly revealed. “Even when I’m down, I’m only here because others aren’t. Thank you, brothers and sisters who gave their all. We are all way more fortunate than we realize, because of you. RLTW. [Which stands for: Rangers Lead the Way.]”
