GENERAL HOSPITAL Star Kirsten Storms Stands up Against Bullying

Tags:

Soap stars often used their celebrity to aid worthy causes, and GENERAL HOSPITAL actress Kirsten Storms (Maxie) is taking advantage of her platform to speak out against bullying. “The Lion Brand Yarn ‘Hat Not Hate’ campaign, that brings awareness to bullying, makes me so proud to be a Lion Brand customer,” she declared. “As soon as I’m done with my current knitting project for our knit-along (I’ve been out the last few days with the flu — bear with me) I plan to knit a few blue beanies and send them into the ‘Hat Not Hate’ headquarters.”

Lion Brand Yarn has paired with STOMP Out Bullying to raise awareness of the issue by urging knitters and crocheters to use one of their free patterns to create hats with blue yarn and share their work online with the hashtag #HatNotHate, donate their hats to schools, or wear it during October, which is Anti-Bullying month. “They give the hats out at schools across the country to remind kids about the importance of being kind to one another,” Storms said, “and just because someone is different from them, that doesn’t mean they’re deserving of negative words or feelings. We are all different from each other. That’s what makes us special. It’s what makes us human.”

And as someone who has been on the receiving end of negative and hurtful comments on social media, Storms knows exactly what these kids are going through. “I’ve mentioned on my page before that kindness and positivity towards others is so important,” she insisted. “You truly never know what another individual’s life is like, what their hidden struggles are — or what your words could do to them. Be a light in someone’s day. I’d rather be remembered for spreading love than hate. Love lasts longer.”
