Laura Wright Defends Cynthia Watros From Internet Hate

Carly and Nina may be enemies on GENERAL HOSPITAL, but in real life, portrayers Laura Wright and Cynthia Watros are the best of friends. “Always fun,” Wright said on Instagram of working with her co-star. “So much love and for sure an adventure sharing the stage with Cynthia.” And Watros quickly replied back: “I love you.” The pair first worked together back in the late 90s when Wright joined the cast of GUIDING LIGHT as Cassie where Watros was playing Annie.

Of course, on TV, Carly still hates Nina for keeping Sonny away from his family and friends while he had amnesia in Nixon Falls. And Nina, who was already bitter after Carly kept the secret that Nelle was the long-lost daughter she’d been searching for for years until after her death, is now even angrier at her rival for keeping quiet that Willow was the long-lost twin she never even knew she had!

Unfortunately, while the storyline has energized viewers who are all taking sides in the ongoing bitter rivalry, some of them are mixing the reel and the real. And one GH “fan” took things to an extreme when they tweeted: “I’m afraid if I saw Cynthia Watros on the street I would punch her in the face for messing with Carly!”

Watros screenshot the tweet and replied simply: “Really?” Immediately, Wright jumped to her girlfriend’s defense, declaring: “Not if I were there! Love you, Cynthia! XOXOX” And naturally, there were plenty more replies from fans and friends decrying the internet hater and supporting the talented actress.

Soap fans have always been a passionate bunch, and many actors and actresses have had some unusual encounters with fans who treat them the way they’d treat their characters. But taking things to the extreme of threatening violence is a step too far, even if it may be meant as a joke.

The internet has allowed fans to interact with their favorite stars on various social media platforms, but unfortunately, it also creates this kind of freedom where people feel free to say whatever they think without considering that there’s a real live human on the other end. Thankfully, Watros has the support of Wright, her other co-stars, and plenty of actual fans who appreciate her talent and can’t wait to see what happens next on GH.
