Linda Purl Guest Stars on GENERAL HOSPITAL!
From THE OFFICE to Port Charles! Er… we mean, Jacksonville, Florida! This week on GENERAL HOSPITAL, Carly’s trip to a swanky executive conference in Aruba got interrupted when the plane was grounded in her old hometown due to a nasty rainstorm. But the delayed flight eventually being canceled will turn out to be the least of her troubles, because according to a teaser posted on GH’s social media handles, “Carly’s layover is about to get interesting.”
The reason for that will come in the form of a very special guest star, Linda Purl, who will first appear in the episode airing Thursday, September 15. “We are beyond excited to welcome Linda Purl to Port Charles Jacksonville!” the soap announced in coordinating posts on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. “Don’t miss her in tomorrow’s all-new GH.”
Wright, meanwhile, shared a selfie with Purl on her own Instagram. “Ohh Linda, let the fun begin!” she exclaimed, adding with her hashtags that working with Purl was “a gift” she was “grateful” for.
So far, details surrounding Purl’s guest stint are being kept under wraps. But considering that Sonny’s ex grew up in Jacksonville and a teaser for the same episode reveals that she runs into an unfriendly face, it’s a pretty safe bet that Purl’s character will turn out to be someone from Carly’s past who has a bone to pick with her! Might Purl be playing Carly’s adoptive mother, Virginia Benson, last played by Lois Nettleton on and off from 1996 through 1998? Or maybe the mystery character Purl is playing is another woman connected to Frank Benson, Caroline and Nell’s dad who abandoned Carly and Virginia when his older daughter was a little girl.
Purl is best known to television audiences for her roles of Fonzie’s girlfriend, Ashley, on HAPPY DAYS, Pam’s mom, Helene, on THE OFFICE, and Ben’s daughter, Charlotte, on MATLOCK, but one of her earliest acting jobs was playing Doreen on THE SECRET STORM for a year back in 1973. Although it’s not clear if the appearance is just for one episode or if she’ll be sticking around for a bit, Purl (whose partner is THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL’s former Stephen, Patrick Duffy), was clearly excited about the project. “Thrilled to be coming onto General Hospital tomorrow,” Purl announced on Instagram. “Fabulous Laura Wright and the rest of the cast and crew. What a blast!”
