Lindsay Hartley on Playing Sam on GH Again
Once again, Sam was looking a little different as Lindsay Hartley stepped into the role of Sam on General Hospital for the fourth time in the Aug. 22 episode. “Grateful for a quick journey back to Port Charles,” the actress shared on Twitter/X.
Kelly Monaco originated the role of Sam McCall back in 2003, but in the summer of 2020, she was replaced temporarily with Hartley. She stepped into the role again for a few episodes in January 2022 then returned again for another brief stint in January 2024. Setsiders are telling Soap Opera Digest that this stint will be “very short-term.”
Though this visit to Port Charles may be a short one, Hartley was thrilled because it once again reunited her with her dear friend — and former Passions co-star — Brook Kerr (Portia)! “I’ve been a part of daytime television since I was 21 and it holds a special place in my heart for countless reasons,” she shared on Instagram with some pics of them on the Jerome Gallery set. “I’m grateful to step into such big shoes again — especially when I get to do it alongside my bestie Brooke Kerr!”
Hartley got her big break when she made her daytime debut as beleaguered heroine Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald on Passions in 1999 (Kerr played Whitney Russell on the NBC sudser). From 2009-10 she played Arianna Hernandez on Days of Our Lives, then quickly moved over to ABC to take on the role of Cara Castillo on All My Children.
In recent years, Hartley has been very busy starring in TV movies like The House on the Hill, Sweet Maple Romance, Killer Ambition, and Secrets Beneath the Floorboards. She has also written and directed many of them, including Romeo and Juliet Killers, Love at the Ranch, and A Christmas Frequency.
Perhaps one day, GH will come up with a new character for Hartley to play full-time. Until then, we’ll just have to enjoy the talented actress’ brief visits to Port Charles!
