Marcus Coloma Opens up About the Spencer Recast on GH

Tags:

Although GENERAL HOSPITAL has recast the role of Spencer Cassadine with actor Nicholas Chavez, the character is still lurking around the periphery of Port Charles and has yet to come in contact with anyone who might actually recognize him — like his father! However, Marcus Coloma (Nikolas) is looking forward to sharing scenes with his new TV son.

“I’m very excited,” Coloma told Soap Opera Digest. “It’s such an important role, and Nicholas is great. It’s bittersweet, because Nicolas Bechtel is also a very sweet guy, but I like Nicholas a lot and there will be a lot of interesting stuff to play between Nikolas and Spencer that I’m looking forward to exploring.”

As GH viewers wait for the explosive moment where father and son come face to face, the actors themselves have already gotten to know each other. And while Spencer and Nikolas definitely aren’t seeing eye-to-eye right now, Chavez and Coloma have found something in common already with their love of chess.

“I saw him watching some of the extras playing in the green room on this really cheap board that’s been in there forever,” Coloma confided. “I said, ‘Oh, you play chess?’ He said, ‘Yeah, do you play?’ I said, ‘Yeah!’ It was like this instant point of commonality, this great instant bond. So I brought in a board and we started playing. We’ve become really good friends.”

Of course, as Spencer still hates his father for faking his own death and continues tormenting him and Ava, that friendliness is definitely not going to be showing up on screen for quite some time! Stay tuned to GH to see how Nikolas deals with his son’s return to Port Charles and the revelations of all Spencer has been up to!
