Maurice Benard Asks Beard or No Beard? — Vote Now!
Some like their men clean-shaven and others like them with a bit of scruff. GENERAL HOSPITAL star Maurice Benard (Sonny) decided to ask his fans which look they preferred on him and then reported the surprising results. “Beard wins by a landslide,” the actor revealed before joking, “So that pretty much says to me I look pretty bad without a beard!”
Benard recently revealed that he’d grown the beard over the holidays for his role in a top-secret project he did with his wife, Paula, and son, Joshua, but in the episode of GH airing in January, Sonny is clean-shaven. (An odd choice, given that Sonny had been presumed dead and laying by the side of a river for who-knows-how-long, but that’s television for you!)
Back in the spring of 2019 when Hollywood was shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, Benard began letting his hair go gray and asked his fans which look they preferred. The votes were cast and two-thirds of them were in favor of Sonny becoming a silver fox. Of course, as you’ve seen on screen, when GH resumed production, Sonny’s hair was back to black.
