Maurice Benard Cast in New Movie ‘The Legitimate Wise Guy’

Tags:

Congratulations to GENERAL HOSPITAL star Maurice Benard (Sonny) on his new role in the upcoming feature film The Legitimate Wise Guy! The movie is scheduled to begin production this spring, but at this time there’s no indication of how it will affect his role on the soap.

Harvey Keitel, Emile Hirsch, and Ruby Rose are set to star in The Legitimate Wise Guy, the true story of Athony Spilotro, one of the most notorious mob enforcers of the ‘80s. He ran the Chicago Outfit’s operations in Las Vegas, where he met a young man dreaming of becoming a Hollywood star. Looking to expand his business, Spilatro began mentoring the aspiring actor and luring him into his web of vice and crime. Benard will be playing Michael Spilotro, Anthony’s brother, who in addition to his life of crime also wanted to be an actor. The cast also includes another daytime star, Patrick Muldoon (ex-Austin, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) as Adam Knight.

Might Sonny come home to Port Charles only to leave again so Benard can shoot his movie?ABC

While starring as Sonny Corinthos on GH, Benard has continued to moonlight in various other projects like a guest-starring role on ABC primetime series CASTLE, starring as John Gotti in the Lifetime movie Victoria Gotti: My Father’s Daughter, and more recently appearing in the films Nightmare Cinema, Hold On, and Equal Standard. So depending on how GH structures its storylines, you may not even notice Benard’s absence from Port Charles while he’s off filming!

The Legitimate Wise Guy hasn’t even begun shooting yet, so there’s no word yet on a release date. But keep checking back at SoapsInDepth.com for the latest and we’ll be sure to let you know when it will premiere in theaters so you can see Benard on the big screen again!
