GH’s Maurice Benard is Going to Be a Grandpa Again!
The Benard family will be getting a little bigger in 2023! On Dec. 17, GENERAL HOSPITAL star Maurice Benard (Sonny) shared the exciting news that he will soon have another grandchild to spoil rotten because his firstborn daughter, Cailey, is having a baby!
“Cailey is pregnant!” the GH legend cheered in the caption accompanying a sweet video in which he learned that his daughter would be a mom again. “This is what confusion, happy, and shock looks like. Another grandchild. What more can any grandfather ask for? You get to play with them and then they go home to their parents.”
In the video, Benard is holding his granddaughter Tiana — nicknamed TT — whom Cailey shares with her husband, Carlos Avila. Off camera, a male voice (presumably Carlos) announces that Cailey is pregnant — leaving Benard in a state of shock! “Again?” he asks, a look of utter confusion on his face as his family laughs in the background. When someone then points out that Cailey has never been pregnant, the actor says that he’d forgotten. As his family laughs at his mistake, Benard stares at everyone behind the camera, still in disbelief. “I was tongue-tied for a second,” he says.
Still letting the exciting news sink in, Benard looks around the room as one of his daughters says, “This is for your Instagram. Look happier.” Breaking out into a laugh, Benard jokes, “That’s the best.” Next, TT steals the show when her dad prompts her to tell her grandpa that she’s going to be a big sister. “A goat!” the adorable toddler instead says, pointing at something she sees out through the window.
Cailey and Carlos tied the knot in June 2022, amid the coronavirus pandemic, and shortly after welcomed Tiana to the family. When the little girl celebrated her second birthday on April 1, Benard promised his followers that he hoped to one day be able to share “how we had the privilege to have her in our lives.” In addition to TT, Benard and his wife Paula are also doting grandparents to Eloise, their daughter Heather’s little girl with her husband, Phil.
And Benard couldn’t be prouder to see his daughters become mothers themselves! “This child couldn’t be in better hands with Cailey and Carlos,” he concluded his post.
