Maurice Benard Reunites With His Granddaughter — See the Adorable Video!

Well, then look no further than the absolutely adorable video we are about to share with you of GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Maurice Benard (Sonny)! “Adorable” isn’t a word that usually comes to mind when speaking of the legendary actor who brings GH’s mob boss to life. But we promise you that this real-life moment between the Daytime Emmy winner and his sweet granddaughter will completely melt your heart.
Benard has said many times that being a grandfather brings him great joy. The actor has two granddaughters: 16-month-old Eloise Rose, who is his daughter Heather’s little girl with her husband, Phil Andresen, and the toddler his daughter Cailey shares with her husband, Carlos Avila. In a video the fan-favorite shared on Instagram, it is the latter grandchild with whom Benard is reuniting after nearly a month of not seeing one another! “What happens when granddad hasn’t seen grandchild in three weeks?” the actor wrote in the caption for the minute-long video.
Well, we’ll tell you! As Benard walked into the room, he greets his family. “Let’s see,” he said, as the toddler (whom Benard has never publicly referred to by name) then came walking around from behind the couch — and broke out in a giant smile when she saw her grandfather. As Benard called her to come over to him, the baby lifted her arms up and squealed in delight before running over to give her grandpa a hug.
Lifting her up, Benard asked, “What’s happening, baby?” and was rewarded when the little girl lifted up her arms again and said, “Yay!” before she gave her granddad a sweet hug. “Are you happy I’m home?” the GH star asked her. “I haven’t seen you in three weeks.”
Next, Benard asked for a kiss — “Can you give me beso?” — but his granddaughter seemed perfectly content to rest her head on his shoulder. Cuddling the little one, the actor gushed, “I haven’t seen you in so long!” With his granddaughter being shy on camera, Cailey tried to prompt her daughter to share a kiss. “Can you give Grandpa Sonny a besito?”
Rubbing the baby’s back, Benard marveled, “She’s just quiet.” The heart-melting video then ended with the actor chuckling in delight, happy to have his sweet granddaughter back in his arms after weeks apart.
