Monica Temporarily Recast on GENERAL HOSPITAL

Don’t panic! There’s just another temporary recast in Port Charles! The role of Monica Quartermaine has been recast in the March 15 episode of GENERAL HOSPITAL with actress Holly Kaplan stepping in. Soap Opera Digest is reporting that the soap is saying that the recast is just for that one episode, and regular portrayer Leslie Charleson will be back on screen very soon.
Viewers might recognize Kaplan from one of her numerous primetime roles over the course of her career. She has appeared in series like HANGIN’ WITH MR. COOPER, GHOST WHISPERER, SCRUBS, PARENTHOOD, THE MENTALIST, HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER, and BETTER CALL SAUL. The actress also has daytime experience, with a small role as a nurse in multiple episodes of NBC sudser DAYS OF OUR LIVES between 2000 and 2003.

Although Charleson is the actress most closely associated with the long-running character of Monica Quartermaine, she herself was actually a recast when she debuted on GH back in 1977. The character first appeared in 1976 and was originally played by Patsy Rahn. Back in 2018, actress Patty McCormack took over for a period of time due to Charleson suffering an injury. However, there was no reason given for this current recasting.
GH fans have had to adjust to quite a few recasts in recent months, from temporary ones like Priscilla Garita filling in for Inga Cadranel as Harmony to more permanent ones like Tanisha Harper taking over for Briana Nicole Henry as Jordan Ashford. Plus, Sydney Mikayla’s final episode as Trina is coming up as Tabyana Ali prepares to debut later in the month.
Thankfully, this Monica recast is just for the one episode so fans can look forward to seeing Charleson back in the role she has made famous over the decades!
