Nancy Lee Grahn is Back at GENERAL HOSPITAL!

After taking a medical leave from GENERAL HOSPITAL, Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) is back to work at the soap! The actress — who took a few weeks off to recover from back surgery — shared the wonderful news on social media on April 27.

“Hi, I’m back,” Grahn began an Instagram video message to her fans, filmed in her home office. “Today was the first day I was back at GENERAL HOSPITAL, too. Really fun. It was, I think, the longest I have been off of work since I’ve worked on daytime. Pretty crazy.”

That’s a pretty stellar attendance record, considering that Grahn’s soap opera debut was as Beverly Wilkes, Marco Dane’s secretary, on ONE LIFE TO LIVE back in 1978! She recurred in that role until 1982, and then returned to the world of daytime in 1985 when she was cast as legal eagle Julia Wainwright Capwell on SANTA BARBARA. The Daytime Emmy winner played the headstrong lawyer until the soap was canceled in 1993 and joined GH three years later as another headstrong lawyer, Alexis Davis. Grahn has been an integral part of the Port Charles canvas ever since.

GH Harmony Alexis
The timing of Grahn’s surgery meant that the soap had to temporarily recast the role of Alexis with Stephanie Erb in order to continue the storyline without interruption.ABC

“What is also crazy,” Grahn continued, “is when I was a young gal, I had a huge crush on Trapper John, MD. And today, I had all my scenes with him. And it was really fun.” Grahn was presumably referring to her co-star Gregory Harrison, who played Dr. George Alonzo “Gonzo” Gates in the popular 1980s medical drama. Today, of course, the handsome actor plays Finn and Chase’s father, Gregory, on GH.

Grahn also took a moment to extend her gratitude to the actress who temporarily played Alexis while she was on medical leave after undergoing surgery to remove two cysts along her spine. “Thank you to Stephanie Erb very much for filling in for me. It’s much appreciated. I didn’t get to meet you, but I hope I do one day soon.”

Although Grahn didn’t reveal when she would be back on the screen, it’s likely that a few more weeks will pass before the fan favorite will be appearing in episodes again. “Thanks, guys,” she signed off. “Have a great Wednesday everyone. Love you.”
