Rebecca Budig Opens up About Her Postpartum Depression

Tags:

As an actress, Rebecca Budig has earned multiple Daytime Emmy Award nominations for her work as Hayden on GENERAL HOSPITAL and Greenlee on ALL MY CHILDREN after getting her start as Michelle on GUIDING LIGHT. But she recently opened up about some real-life drama that she experienced shortly after welcoming her daughter, Charlotte, in September 2014. “I had my daughter seven years ago,” Budig shared. “When she was about five months old, I was diagnosed with postpartum depression and anxiety.

“What I thought would be the easiest, most joyful time of my life turned out to be one of the hardest,” she added. “Many women go through it, but the shame I felt was overwhelming. There is a ton of pressure when you become a mom. It starts with breastfeeding and on and on and on.”

Budig survived that difficult period in her life and eventually decided to channel the pain of that experience into something positive. “One day I shared what I was going through with my friend, Michael Easton (Finn, GH), and was encouraged to write it down,” she revealed. “What came of that is a short film based on my experience. I wrote and shot this film — under Michael’s direction — to share it with others in the hope that one woman won’t feel alone. That a loved one might open their eyes to how someone might be feeling.”

The actress shared a sneak peek at her short film, About a Girl, and soap fans might recognize a couple of familiar faces among the clips, including ONE LIFE TO LIVE stars Trevor St. John (Victor) and Sherri Saum (Keri). But fair warning, the teaser does contain adult language.

“I’ll be sharing more about my film and my experience with postpartum in the upcoming weeks,” Budig promised, “but if you would like to see more about the movie, please go to @aboutagirlfilm on Instagram. Stay tuned.” You can also check back here at SoapsInDepth.com for updates as we’ll be sure to let you know more about the film, including how you can see it!
