Rebecca Budig Opens up About Her Status at GENERAL HOSPITAL
Ever since the character was abducted, fans have wondered, “Is Hayden returning to GENERAL HOSPITAL?” Unfortunately, two years later, fans remain disappointed that although mentioned occasionally, Hayden — and portrayer Rebecca Budig — remains MIA.
With Budig’s return to social media recently, the comments on her posts have been flooded by fans wondering if she’s ever going to come back to Port Charles. “I am getting bombarded with that question, honestly,” she admitted to Soap Opera Digest.
After getting her start as Michelle Bauer on CBS sudser GUIDING LIGHT, Budig found even more success playing fan-favorite Greenlee Smythe on ALL MY CHILDREN. She joined the cast of GH back in March 2015, but her character of Hayden was shot and put into a coma by May. Budig reprised the role in August and remained with the soap until August 2017. She made another comeback in July 2019 but was again written out in November.
However, while there is still no news as to whether or not Budig is returning to GH, Budig did want to clarify one particular rumor spreading online that she has turned down an offer from executive producer Frank Valentini to come back. “Listen, I love Frank, and Frank and I are friends,” the actress declared, “but I haven’t been asked back since I left the show [in 2019].”
It can be difficult to discern the truth among all the rumors floating around out there on the internet (in fact, PORT CHARLES alum Marie Wilson (ex-Karen) was said to be taking over the role of Hayden at one point), so be sure to check back here at SoapsInDepth.com for future updates because we’ll let you know if Budig is ever actually returning to GH!
