Rick Hearst on Ric and Liz’s Future on General Hospital

Ric has done some pretty terrible things on General Hospital but now that the guy is back in town, he’s trying to put some things right, particularly with Elizabeth. Although initially resistant, Liz finally gave in and gave him the chance to explain himself. Could old feelings be rekindled between these two?

“Elizabeth has always been that one person who, for the most part, he never wanted to be that collateral damage,” Rick Hearst told Soap Opera Digest of Ric’s previous schemes. “But he knows how much collateral damage he has indeed left on her and their relationship. She’s the one that got away. She’s the one person that he’s never been able to reconcile himself with, ‘This was you, you killed this.’”

Rick and Elizabeth fell in love and were married, but after she miscarried their baby, he blamed Sonny so he kidnapped a pregnant Carly intending to steal her baby for himself! Naturally, Liz divorced Ric, but after she became pregnant with Zander’s baby, Ric stepped in to remarry her so they could raise the child together. Unfortunately, he remained obsessed with Sonny, and they split up again. During Ric’s last visit to Port Charles in 2015, he attempted to reunite with Liz, but she had moved on with Franco.

“The feelings stay there; the genuine nature of who the two of them were at the beginning of their relationship has never left,” Hearst explained. “And yet, they’re older, they’ve grown through experience and other relationships and time apart. But I think he will always try to come back to that moment where he could woo her, and see if there is a possibility there. The look in both of their eyes… the more that you see them, the more he actually interacts with Elizabeth and makes advances and movements towards her while he’s in town, the more he’s going to understand that this is a different time — but he ain’t giving up!”
