GH’s Sofia Mattsson Is Now a United States Citizen!

Tags:

Please join us in congratulating GENERAL HOSPITAL star Sofia Mattsson on becoming a citizen of the United States of America! “So honored and proud to have become a U.S. Citizen today!” the actress announced on Instagram, sharing a beautiful pic of herself outside the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services building holding her certificate and an American flag. “I’m so grateful to this country for all the opportunities I’ve been given and for helping me make my dreams come true!”

The Swedish native grew up in Stockholm before traveling the world modeling and settling in Los Angeles to pursue acting. Her first credits were roles on television series like TWO AND A HALF MEN and NCIS and films like Jacked Up, Unstrung, and Jurassic City. Although Mattsson originally started out playing Swedish and Russian characters, she was soon able to lose her accent and play other types of roles.

Mattsson joined the cast of GH as Sasha Gilmore in September 2018, and the young woman went from pretending to be Nina’s daughter to a romance with Michael to drug addiction to having a baby with Brando that tragically passed away soon after he was born.

In real-life, Mattsson and her husband, fellow actor Thomas Payton, were overjoyed to welcome their first child on July 26, 2021, and will be celebrating his first birthday this spring. Of course, Sasha didn’t deliver her own baby on screen until after her portrayer came back from maternity leave, which left her having to wear a fake baby bump on the soap!

Congratulations to Mattsson, the newest citizen of the United States of America!
