GENERAL HOSPITAL Stars Say Goodbye to Ryan Carnes

Tags:

It now appears that the Lucas recast on GENERAL HOSPITAL is going to be permanent. Although the soap made no official announcement regarding the switch before during or after the Nov. 16 episode when Matt Trudeau took over the role, a couple of Ryan Carnes’ castmates took to social media to say goodbye to him and express their gratitude for everything.

“It has been an absolute honor and privilege, my friend,” Parry Shen (Brad) posted with a pic of them from a photoshoot around the time of their characters’ wedding, toasting to their union. In 2013, Shen actually joined the cast of GH months before Carnes returned to the role of Lucas. But within a year, the characters of Brad and Lucas had found themselves in an unlikely relationship and even were happily married for a time. At least until Brad’s baby swap was exposed and Lucas couldn’t forgive him!

The adorable young actors who played the baby involved in that emotional swap also had a little something to say on Instagram. Theo and Erik Olson, who still play Wiley today, posted a photo of Carnes holding them in cute little Santa Clause onesies backstage at the studio. Well, their mom did! “This is our all-time favorite picture with Ryan Carnes! We just want to take a moment to thank you, Ryan, for being such a kind-hearted, genuine guy who truly cared about the boys. They loved hanging out with you.” She then added that “Lucas will be played by Matt Trudeau now! Welcome to the GH family, Matt!”

Carnes joined the cast of GH back in 2004, but left just a year later. At the end of 2013, he returned and continued playing Lucas until the sudden recast in November 2020. If the reason for the recast is that Carnes is too busy with other roles, we’ll be sure to let you know what those projects might be so that you can continue watching the actor outside of daytime. So stay tuned!
