Steve Burton Shares a Health Update
Fans were stunned on Aug. 13 when GENERAL HOSPITAL star Steve Burton (Jason) revealed that he had tested positive for COVID after being exposed on the job. Just five days later, the actor shared a selfie on Instagram to offer an update on how he’s doing. “All is well,” Burton reported. “Thanks for the well wishes and prayers! Appreciate it, and the fam is great!”
When Burton first shared his COVID diagnosis, he assured fans: “I feel fine. I have no symptoms.” And that seems to still be the case, which is very good. Hopefully, this means the actor was vaccinated, and that’s why his symptoms are so minimal that they’re practically non-existent. And hopefully, his family also remains healthy.
The comments were flooded with well-wishes, including from Burton’s new GH castmate, Cameron Mathison (Drew), who shared a series of muscle-flexing arm emojis to show his support. Burton said “I was exposed at work,” although there has been no additional reports of any other actors testing positive yet. There have also been no announcements as to how the soap will work around the actor’s diagnosis.
Burton will be required to quarantine until he returns a negative test result, which could cause some scheduling problems. When Kelly Thiebaud (Britt) tested positive, the soap was able to write around her absence as Britt is only a recurring character. However, Burton is currently a major part of a front-burner storyline as Jason and Carly plan to marry to ensure the Corinthos family retains its power among the mob families of Port Charles, so GH may have to do a temporary recast as they did with Jordan when Briana Nicole Henry and her husband caught COVID after the holidays.
