Tabyana Ali Opens Up About Joining GENERAL HOSPITAL

On GENERAL HOSPITAL, the character of Trina will have a new look in the next few weeks when daytime newcomer Tabyana Ali makes her debut in the role of Taggert and Portia’s daughter. As previously reported, Sydney Mikayla is exiting the soap in order to concentrate on her studies as a college student at UCLA, and the soap tapped Ali to take over the role.

Since the news of her casting broke late last week, Ali’s social media accounts have been flooded with well-wishers welcoming her to the cast of GH — and the actress thanked them all with a short, but sweet, post on Twitter. “I’m so grateful to have this opportunity!” Ali tweeted. “Thank y’all for the warm welcoming. I’m so happy to be in this position.”

Over on Instagram, Ali shared a post over the weekend that didn’t specifically mention her new gig on the soap opera but shared her excitement for the days ahead. “Some great magic is coming,” she captioned a moody selfie, punctuating the caption with two heart emojis. In reply to comments wishing the daytime rookie good luck, Ali shared she is “very excited” and “happy to be part of the family” at GH.

While GH marks Ali’s first soap opera, the young actress has been performing for a decade. After booking several spots as an extra on TV shows and competing as a contestant on Disney Channel’s WIN, LOSE, OR DRAW, Ali went on to appear as a guest star in TV series like NEW GIRL, A KID CALLED MAYONNAISE, and THE BIG SHOW. She also voiced the character of Leelee, a magical sea creature, in two episodes of the animated Nick Jr. preschool series SHIMMER AND SHINE and appeared in the 2021 thriller anthology Horror Noire. Most recently, Ali wrapped a role in the upcoming movie Empire Waist, a body-positive, coming-of-age feature film.

As for Mikayla, after news of the casting switch broke, the young actress gracefully passed on the torch to her replacement with words of encouragement. “You got this,” she tweeted to Ali, adding the #Sprina hashtag for the characters of Spencer and Trina and a heart emoji.

Mikayla’s final episode is scheduled to air on Wednesday, March 17, and Ali will begin airing later in the month.
