That Was Genie Francis’ Daughter, Eliza Frakes, as Julie on GENERAL HOSPITAL!
If you thought that the character of Julie on GENERAL HOSPITAL looked familiar, it’s probably because she was played by actress Eliza Frakes, who bears quite a strong resemblance to her mother, Genie Francis (Laura)!
Following in the footsteps of her mother as well as her father, actor/director Jonathan Frakes, Elizabeth Frances Frakes has also been drawn to show business. (The couple also have a son, Jameson Ivor Frakes.) She’s only just starting out, though, so her GH appearance was her television acting debut following her work in a few short films. Though she has also written and directed some shorts herself as well as working behind the scenes on episodes of the TNT series THE LIBRARIANS.
Frakes first appeared in the May 16 episode of GH, introducing herself to Sasha as Julie, the PA for the Home and Heart shopping channel. She asked Sasha how she was doing, explaining that she was working that day she had her breakdown on the show during her previous appearance.
Then, during Sasha’s live appearance touting Deception’s new product, Julie reluctantly obeyed the producer’s orders to turn up the crying baby sound effect in Sasha’s earpiece, hoping for another on-air breakdown. But before she could, Cody came to the rescue and threatened to streak naked across the set if they didn’t shut it down immediately.
Once the sound was turned off, Sasha quickly recovered and did great promoting the Deceptor. And after the sequence was finished, Julie apologized to her and asked if Sasha would take a call from a viewer who wanted to talk to her, promising no more stunts.
Clearly, talent runs in the family, because Frakes was a natural on camera. Maybe the next time Sasha visits Home and Hearth, Julie will have gotten a promotion and taken that sleazy producer’s job! If not, we’re sure we’ll be seeing Frakes on our screens again somewhere!
