Vinessa Antoine’s Series DIGGSTOWN Heads to Fox!

Former GENERAL HOSPITAL star Vinessa Antoine (ex-Jordan) has a big reason to smile today: Her Canadian legal drama, DIGGSTOWN, is headed to Fox! According to Variety, the network has acquired seasons 1 and 2 of the series, 12 episodes in total. “God. Is. Good,” the Canadian actress wrote on Instagram about her series making its way down south, adding in a hashtag that she was “bursting” with happiness over the news.

Antoine stars in DIGGSTOWN as Marcie Diggs, a successful corporate lawyer who gave up her cushy job to work in a legal-aid office after her beloved aunt committed suicide following the pressures of a malicious prosecution. Joining a motley crew of lawyers, Marcie has vowed to never let another innocent person be destroyed by the justice system.

After joining the GH cast in March 2014, the actress exited in the summer of 2018 to star in the primetime legal drama for Canada’s CBC network. Antoine’s casting made headlines at the time as DIGGSTOWN was the first Canadian drama series to feature a Black Canadian woman as its lead character.

“Marcie takes on the cases of ordinary people going through extraordinary circumstances,” Antoine previously told Soaps In Depth in explaining the premise of the series. “I was attracted to the non-stereotypical way that this black woman was being written: She’s not tough and angry… she’s actually kind of naïve to human behavior, and she connects with people out of love, kindness and doing the right thing.”

While DIGGSTOWN had previously been picked up to air on BET+, the cable network’s new subscription streaming service, back in April 2020, the Fox deal marks the first time that the drama will be made widely available on network television in the United States.

There’s no word on when Fox will add DIGGSTOWN to its current programming schedule, but we’ll be sure to update you with more information as it becomes available, so keep checking back at SoapsInDepth.com. And the series was recently renewed by CBC for a third season, so there are even more episodes to look forward to!
