Watch GH’s Maurice Benard and Son Joshua Duet!

Tags:

Fans knew that Joshua Benard was a talented musician and singer even before he appeared on General Hospital as the guitar-playing med student Adam because his father, Maurice Benard (Sonny), had been proudly sharing clips of his son performing on his social media for years. But one thing that hasn’t been as common is seeing father and son performing together, something Joshua remedied with a recent Instagram reel!

In the clip, Joshua sits at the piano playing the Commodores’ 1977 number-one hit “Easy” as he and his father sing along together. However, the elder Benard struggles to remember some of the lyrics and then suddenly abandons the performance just as they’re about to hit the chorus! “My dad left before the best part!” Joshua joked in his video’s caption.

Fans were delighted by the video and GH alum Vanessa Marcil (ex-Brenda) commented with a laughing emoji and told Joshua, “Your responses are genius.” The expression on his face after his father wanders off before they can sing the chorus is pretty priceless!

Benard had been sharing clips of his son singing long before Joshua Benard made his GH debut in the Nov. 12, 2018 episode which featured a special hour devoted to asking “What if Sonny never went into a life of crime?” During that special show, Joshua played a younger version of his father’s iconic character of Sonny Corinthos.

In March 2022, Benard returned to the soap in the newly-created role of Adam Wright, a college student who was attending PCU with Josslyn, Cameron, and Trina. During his first sporadic appearances, the character was kind of a jerk, but when he reprised the role in September 2023 for a longer stint, he was shown to be struggling with his overbearing father who wanted him to study medicine, not music. But after he overdosed and Josslyn saved his life, Adam was inspired to live his own life.

Since it’s unlikely Adam will be popping up again on GH, fans will just have to enjoy the younger Benard’s talents on social media!
