Wes Ramsey Says Goodbye to GENERAL HOSPITAL

Tags:

In the Feb. 23 episode of GENERAL HOSPITAL, Peter August took his final breath while his aunt Anna held his hand, marking the end of the diabolical villain’s reign of terror and portrayer Wes Ramsey’s run in the role.

After the episode had aired, Ramsey shared an emotional farewell message on Instagram, posting a photo of him wearing a blue satin jacket embroidered with the GH logo as he walked down the hallway of the soap opera’s studio, presumably for the last time. “Thank you for taking the journey with me,” Ramsey wrote. “To those who were kind and supportive, my heart has felt inspired by you. To my friends and family (and the fans everywhere), it has been an honor to give everything I had to this and I will never forget how fun it was to entertain you.”

Familiar to daytime audiences for his previous roles of GUIDING LIGHT’s Sam and DAYS OF OUR LIVES’ Owen, Ramsey joined the cast of GH in the summer of 2017 as a new hire Drew made for Aurora Media. And while Peter seemed to be a good guy as he held Maxie’s hand while she grieved Nathan’s death, it was eventually revealed that he was actually Henrik, the son of notorious villain Cesar Faison (making him Nathan’s half-brother) and devious superspy Alex Devane.

Over the course of his four-year run, Ramsey easily became the character soap watchers loved to hate — which the actor didn’t at all mind. As Peter’s long list of dastardly deeds grew ever longer, GH seemed to make a game out of making viewers think the character would be written off, only for him to resurface once again. But this time, it appears as if Peter truly did bite the big one this time around, as several of Ramsey’s colleagues commented on his post to wish him well, like Briana Nicole Henry (ex-Jordan), Cameron Mathison (Drew), and real-life leading lady Laura Wright (Carly).

Ramsey’s on-screen mom-turned-aunt, Finola Hughes (Anna), not only commented on his post but shared a message of her own on her Instagram page, praising him for a spectacular portrayal of such a flawed character. “You are Renaissance man, a consummate professional,” Hughes wrote. “Thank you for being a great scene partner. Thank you for bringing your A-game each and every day to GH. It’s been a pleasure exploring all the strange grey areas of a story where the villains were sometimes the victims, and the heroes weren’t always in the right. You trod some difficult terrain and carried it with grace and dignity. Your chilling poise as the character, and transparent wound, made working opposite you fulfilling and always surprising.”

If there’s one thing we’ve learned about soaps over the years, it’s that the dead do love to come back to life — so there’s always a possibility that viewers will see Peter August again one day. Heck, we lost count of how many times his pop, Faison, returned from the dead! But for now, it seems as if we have indeed seen the last of Ramsey and his alter ego. “To the cast and crew, thank you for welcoming me into your world and for giving me a chance to play with you each day,” he concluded. “To the writers, producers, and directors, thank you for trusting me with all we did together.

“It was,” he signed off, “one helluva ride.”
