On May 21, Gregory Harrison’s time as General Hospital’s Gregory Chase came to an end when the character passed away peacefully in his sleep. Now, as the actor parts ways with the soap, co-star James Patrick Stuart (Valentin) has shared a personal memory of Harrison as a farewell.

“When I was 11 years old, I rode my bike to a veterinarian in Sherman Oaks, CA, to have them look at my ailing hamster,” Stuart recalled in an X/Twitter post. “In the waiting room, with her dog, was a very beautiful TV actress, Randi Oakes. I recognized her from the show CHiPs. She took a keen interest in me and my hamster and, even though we were complete strangers, she was very encouraging and compassionate to me. I’ve never forgotten her kindness.”

Nearly four decades later, Stuart — who would become a television performer himself — was brought back into Oakes’ orbit through a few degrees of separation when Harrison took over the role of Gregory Chase. “Years later, I was so happy when Gregory, her husband, joined General Hospital so that I might tell him what a good person I thought she was,” he continued in his post. “Delighted to find out they are still married and have raised their children in the beautiful state of Oregon.”

Harrison joined the cast of GH in November 2020, taking over for actor James Read, who originated the role back in June 2018. Although his Port Charles entrance marked the actor’s daytime debut, Harrison was already a familiar face to television viewers who recognized him from his roles on vintage shows like Trapper John, M.D., Falcon Crest, and Sisters, and the more recent primetime dramas Rizzoli & Isles and Chesapeake Shores.

Oakes, who played Officer Bonnie Clark on CHiPs, and Harrison married in 1980, but she retired from acting to raise the couple’s family. Together, she and Harrison share four children: Emma, Kate, Quinn, and Lily Anne Harrison — who briefly got to join her father in Port Charles when she played Molly and TJ’s surrogate, Andrea, last year.
