William deVry Stars in a Powerful New Film
Fans of soap star William deVry can look forward to seeing the actor in another movie. “First day of shooting Pocket of Hope,” he shared on Twitter/X with a picture from the set. “Based on the true life story of Chad Gaines and the book Who Am I. Cora Altman plays my daughter.”
Written by Stevie Long and directed by David Kohner Zuckerman, Pocket of Hope is based on the life of Chad Gaines, as chronicled in his book, Who Am I. “I was 28 years old the morning that my mother killed my stepfather,” Gaines wrote on his official website. “But the trauma, the abuse, and the violence took place many years before that. We lived in this very small farm town with a population of 512 people at the time. I was eight years old in 1981, when it all started.”
Beginning in his childhood, Gaines was subjected to years and years of physical abuse and violence that caused him to turn to drugs as a teenager. Having told his powerful story in Who Am I, the author now spends much of his time doing lectures and coaching on the long-term effects of PTSD and the power of resilience. And now his book is being turned into a film to share his tale with an even wider audience.
Back in 2003, deVry found daytime success playing the villainous Michael Cambias on All My Children, then went on to take over the role of Storm Logan on The Bold & The Beautiful from 2006-08. The actor returned to daytime in 2013 to join the cast of General Hospital as Derek Wells, who was soon revealed to Julian Jerome back from the dead.
After being written out of GH in 2020, deVry has made appearances in television shows like NCIS: Los Angeles and Quantum Leap as well as films like Christmas At the Chalet and A Whitewater Romance. Given that Pocket of Hope has only just started filming, a release date is not yet known.
