William Moses Opens up About Taking Over as Jeff Webber on GH
Veteran actor William Moses already had some connections to GENERAL HOSPITAL before the soap tapped him to take over the role of Jeff Webber. His brother, Rick Moses, was actually on the sudser back in the ‘80s!
“He played Hutch, the hitman that was after Luke and Laura,” Moses told Soap Opera Digest. “And I have been around a number of the actors, personally and professionally. Genie Francis (Laura), her father was an actor and my mother was an actress and we both had the same agent. Years ago, when I was doing the Perry Mason Mysteries, she came and did one.”
In fact, Moses also encountered Jeff’s previous portrayer, Richard Dean Anderson, back in the day! “In, I think, 1983, we did BATTLE OF THE NETWORK STARS together,” he recalled. “So I knew Richard when I was in my early 20s. I think we won that year, actually, with the tug of war!”
Best known for playing Cole Gioberti on primetime sudser FALCON CREST, GH became Moses’ first foray into the hectic world of modern daytime television. So he was very grateful to be sharing scenes with veteran soap star Rebecca Herbst as his TV daughter, Elizabeth.
“We worked the first day, which was like the bath of fire because it’s so fast and so quick,” he confided, “and then we worked the second day, which was even longer — Rebecca and I had 40 pages of dialogue — and by the end of it, your brain is kind of mush and you’re kind of mush but we did have a chance to talk in the hallway and she’s just a lovely young woman and a really gifted actress and a really nice and caring and friendly person.”
Before joining the cast of GH, Moses got a crash course in the Webber family history from one of the show’s writers, and he was excited to be playing a character with such history. “The thing that excites me most as an actor is, is there a rich emotional source for a character?” he mused. “With Jeff Webber, there are a lot of nice, strong things for me to play that make for a challenging and wonderful role.”
