B&B Alum Kayla Ewell Reveals Her Favorite Role
During her career, Kayla Ewell has played a lot of different roles. Soap fans know her best from her run as Caitlin Ramirez on The Bold & The Beautiful but she is also well-known for her role as Vicki Donovan on The Vampire Diaries and playing Nora Truman on Roswell, New Mexico. However, it turns out that of all her roles across film and television, it was her very first one that is her favorite!
“God Bill, your rocket’s huge!” she shared on Facebook quoting a line from her episode of the ‘80s-set series Freaks and Geeks and sharing some photos from it. “Freaks and Geeks, you will always have my heart. 25 years ago, I joined a little bit of magic.”
Centered around the Weir siblings, Lindsay and Sam, Freaks and Geeks chronicled their lives and those of their friends at William McKinley High School in the year 1980. Ewell played the character of Maureen Sampson in the episode titled “Carded and Discarded” that originally aired on Jan. 10, 2000. A new transfer student, Maureen was befriended by Sam and his geek friends Neal and Bill, and they went to extremes to try and keep her around when the more popular kids tried to lure the beauty over to their side.
“I loved playing Maureen Sampson,” Ewell enthused. “In fact, I’ve loved playing many characters, but she is by far my favorite. She’s a gentle reminder to lead with our hearts and spread some kindness. Huge thanks for taking a chance on a little girl from Long Beach, whose dreams were big.
“And yes, I have since learned that ‘rocket’ has more than one meaning,” she added with a wink.
If you’d like to check out Ewell’s episode, Freaks and Geeks is currently streaming on Hulu and Paramount+. Although you really should watch the entire series if you haven’t, because it’s terrific!
