Sean Kanan Reprises His Karate Kid Role!

Tags:

When Sean Kanan tweeted that he had big news to share later that day, he wasn’t kidding! The actor is reprising his role of Mike Barnes in the upcoming fifth season of COBRA KAI on Netflix! “So excited to finally announce that Mike Barnes will be a part of season five!” the actor shared on social media with a first-look pic of him on set. “Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg wrote me an awesome story. Can’t wait for you all to see it!”

Soap fans know Kanan best as Deacon on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL or A.J. on GENERAL HOSPITAL, but the actor got his big break back in 1989 playing the villainous Mike Barnes in The Karate Kid Part III. The sequel series, COBRA KAI, debuted back in 2018 on YouTube, but after the company stepped away from scripted original programming, Netflix picked it up and aired seasons three and four in 2021. Season five is slated to premiere this year on Friday, Sept. 9.

Now, in The Karate Kid Part III, Mike was part of the brutal Cobra Kai dojo and fought against Daniel in the big karate tournament. However, there is no information yet as to what side the character will be on in COBRA KAI. Will Mike once again be part of the gang of villains or might he this time find himself fighting on the side of right against his former dojo?

Season five of COBRA KAI has also added another cast member with a GH connection — Alicia Hannah-Kim will be playing sensei Kim Da-Eun, who as a part of Terry’s expansion of the Cobra Kai dojo will definitely be a villain. The actress is married to Sebastian Roché, who GH fans remember as Jerry Jacks!

B&B fans don’t have to worry about this project affecting Kanan’s status on the CBS sudser, as it’s already completed filming for its September premiere. The only question is if he’ll be back again for season six!
