If Genoa City denizens knew what was in store for them in 2020 — bubbling tensions in both the bedroom and boardroom — they might just pull the covers over their heads and stay in bed the morning after they celebrate the ball dropping in Times Square! What’s coming up? We asked THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS’ co-executive producer/headwriter, Josh Griffith, for the scoop!
Will Billy Betray Victoria?
Billy’s struggle to deal with his inner demons continues, which could once again threaten his home life. “Victoria’s trust in Billy will be compromised when she learns of his growing friendship [with Amanda],” Griffith previewed to Soaps In Depth. And while the hunk may insist that he and the legal eagle are just friends, could he simply be in denial? “Billy and Amanda will find themselves in a dangerous situation that will lead them to question the true nature of their relationship,” warned the wordsmith.
Victoria may be blindsided by Billy’s connection to Amanda, but Elena is well aware of the threat that the beauty poses and “will stand her ground in order to protect Devon and their relationship!” The good doc will also “enlist Devon and Nate’s help with a passion project.” Meanwhile, Jill will “take a break from her world travels so she can stay in Genoa City and keep a close eye on both Billy and Chance [even as she] and Devon will continue to work together to track down Colin.” Of course, one might wonder, given her soft spot for her scoundrel of an ex, what she might do if she actually manages to catch up with the Aussie!
Nikki’s Got A Secret!
Adam and Chelsea fans have been waiting patiently for the couple to resume their epic love story. Will they get their wish in 2020 now that Nick has ended his relationship with Chelsea? “Adam has made his feelings for Chelsea perfectly clear, and as we know, he does not stop until he gets what he wants!” teased Griffith.
As far as the Newman family is concerned, the scribe says, “Victor will begin the new year preparing to celebrate a huge milestone for [his] legacy.” The Mustache isn’t the only one who will be busy. “Nikki will embark on a secret project that will surprise her family!”
Phyllis Is Ready For Romance!
The Grand Phoenix has become Genoa City’s hottest spot — not always in a good way, given the drugged drinks and hostage crisis. Abby may wish to put those issues in the past, but the hotel will continue to be ground zero for chaos in the new decade! “Abby and Chance’s budding romance will be challenged by a third party with questionable motives just as Abby is distracted by more drama at The Grand Phoenix,” teased Griffith. “At the same time, Phyllis will continue to fight her way back into The Grand Phoenix and perhaps take down Abby in the process!”
On a more personal front, the flame-haired beauty is tired of flying solo. “The New Year may present Phyllis with some romance as she sets her sights on Genoa City’s most eligible bachelors!”
Sinking (Relation)Ships?
“Theo will insinuate himself even further into Kyle and Lola’s life, [which will have] Kyle running out of patience, and his long-simmering feud with Theo will explode!” promised Griffith. “Summer will have her work cut out for her as she tries to keep the peace between the rivals!” Ah, but where will that leave Lola, who has become Theo’s biggest advocate? More importantly, what will her support of her hubby’s rival do to her marriage?
Perilous Times At Jabot?
Jack has become a wiser, more mature patriarch thanks to some of the lessons learned in 2019 — which will come in handy in the new year! “There will be a major power shift at Jabot that will force Jack to play peacemaker,” teased Griffith. “[Meanwhile] Ashley will visit from Paris to see family… and settle some unfinished business!”
Fans should also brace themselves for an explosion across town. “Michael and Lauren’s world will be rocked when they learn shocking news about a family member!” Will that mean we will see a lot more of the popular couple in 2020? We’re crossing our fingers!
