Camryn Grimes Reveals How She and Fiancé Brock Powell Fell in Love
As Disney fans, it’s kind of funny to think that THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS star Camryn Grimes (Mariah) and actor Brock Powell have Goofy to thank for bringing them together! But the pair — who announced their engagement back in January 2022 — was introduced to each other by Powell’s mentor, Bill Farmer, who voices the character of Goofy for Disney!
“I was doing a demo and Brock was directing it,” Grimes revealed to Soap Opera Digest. “To do voice-overs, you have to do a demo where you kind of showcase all your voices. We started talking and then lockdown hit. I actually consider our anniversary the day Los Angeles went into lockdown, which was March 14. He posted a photo of a TWILIGHT ZONE episode, which just so happened to be my favorite TWILIGHT ZONE episode, and that’s how we started talking.”
“I knew immediately that you were someone I felt I needed to have in my life in a romantic capacity,” Powell added. “And over time we found out there were things that we had in common. Rankin/Bass [animated specials] is one of those things — nobody talks about Rankin/Bass!”
While Powell had originally planned to use stop-motion animation to propose to Grimes on Christmas Eve, but because of COVID, pushed the date to her birthday, January 7. And in a stroke of luck, Grimes had an audition that day that got her out of the house long enough for her beau to set everything up for his Disney-themed proposal. Unfortunately, Powell actually had to ask twice before she said yes!
“So, apparently, I kind of blacked out,” Grimes admitted. “I mean, I remember the whole thing but watching the video back, everybody was making fun of me because the only thing that I was saying for a good five-to-10 minutes was, ‘Oh my God! Oh my God!’ And so he had to ask a couple of times. And I was like, ‘Oh, yes, obviously!’”
