Doug Davidson Responds to a Y&R Fan’s Heartfelt Story

Fans haven’t been able to enjoy watching Doug Davidson as Paul on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS for quite some time now, but they have still been able to interact with the talented actor on social media as he is very interactive on Twitter. And recently, a story shared by a longtime fan really touched him.

A Twitter user going only by the name “A” reached out to Davidson to say he would always consider him his “big brother.” “Your character of Paul Williams helped me stand up for myself and avoid unnecessary fights as a black Canadian teenager, as I always used Paul to guide me to what is right without major fights in high school.”

While marveling at how soaps can really affect an audience, Davidson was also careful to give credit where credit is due. “Wow,” he exclaimed. “I am so touched. Hearing your story makes me realize that sometimes you don’t comprehend the effects of the platform. [Y&R creator] Bill Bell was responsible for the moral integrity of Paul Williams. I was just the bloke that had the honor to utter his words. Thank you again!”

Bell may have created the character of Paul Williams and given him his moral compass, but it was Davidson’s performances that really brought it all to life and made it connect with the audience watching at home. Soaps have always been a group effort! And we’re sure plenty of viewers will continue to hope that they’ll get to enjoy Davidson’s Paul again, even if someone else is putting the words in his mouth now.
