Sabrina wasn’t on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS for a full year so it’s understandable that even longtime fans who remember the character might not recall all the details of her time in Genoa City. She was introduced back in February 2008 and was played by actress Raya Meddine until her tragic exit in June 2009. Here’s what you need to know about Victor’s wife!
Sabrina Costelana was an art curator living in Paris who befriended Victoria Newman while she was living in Italy. In February 2008, Sabrina visited Victoria in Genoa City and found herself attracted to her father, Victor Newman, as they bonded over a shared love of art. A kiss took their relationship to the next level which unfortunately ruined her friendship with Victoria. Sabrina accepted Victor’s offer to manage an art gallery he would open for her in Genoa City, and after she learned she was pregnant, Sabrina and Victor were married.
Sabrina’s mother arrived in town for the ceremony and it was revealed why they had a strained relationship. After Sabrina’s husband and father were killed, Zara chose to treat Sabrina as a sister, not a daughter. Sabrina agreed to a profile article in Restless Style but Jack changed the copy at the last minute to make it sell better by painting her as a woman who would do anything to get ahead, even offer sexual favors! Sabrina was furious, but chose to hold her head up high and wouldn’t let it destroy her life.
Unfortunately, in August 2008, Sabrina was involved in a deadly car crash with David Chow that caused her to miscarry Victor’s child and require a liver transplant. But she wasn’t at the top of the transplant list, and couldn’t get one in time. On her death bed, Sabrina made peace with Victoria before passing away. Although a funeral was planned, Victor canceled it so he could attend it alone. Sabrina made a couple of appearances from beyond the grave, the first in September 2008 when Victor asked her to come and take him but she said it wasn’t his time yet. Then, in June 2009, Sabrina appeared to Ashley Abbott in a dream to assure her she was completely sane and giving Victor the child she was unable to.
