Sutton Ames on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS — Everything You Need to Know

Sutton Ames on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS is a new character with a whole lot of complicated backstory, so let us break it all down for you! The character first appeared in the April 5, 2021, episode, played by actor Jack Landron, making his daytime debut.

Sutton Ames is a powerful politician who forced his daughter, Naya Benedict, to give up her twins at birth to avoid a damaging family scandal. But in April 2021, he showed up on Amanda Sinclair’s doorstep to ask for her help. But she was not particularly welcoming to her grandfather.

Naya had already told Amanda how Sutton was going on trial for the murder of her father, Richard, so the attorney had time to look into the case before her grandfather showed up to ask if she would agree to represent him. While Amanda said the evidence didn’t indicate he’d caused Richard’s death, she did blame him for pressuring Naya into giving her and Hilary Curtis up at birth. Amanda was further shaken when Sutton revealed that he’d been keeping tabs on both of his twin granddaughters to make sure they were alright.

Sutton remained unflappable as Amanda lashed out at him, hoping she would take his case, as being represented by his own granddaughter would look good in court. He then tempted her by offering Amanda something she’s always wanted — to be part of a family. Sutton promised he could open doors for her if she agreed to become part of their powerful family, and left her to make her final decision.

Amanda agreed to defend her grandfather, but her sister, Imani Benedict, warned that he would never really accept her into the family. And as she investigated, Amanda suspected Sutton was hiding something and eventually dropped the case as she realized that Sutton was behind Richard’s death. When Naya turned herself in, Amanda became determined to make Sutton face justice. Victor Newman told Sutton he was in possession of a letter implicating him in the murder and tried to strike a deal, but when Sutton later accepted, The Mustache declared it was no longer on the table. Sutton practically confessed to Richard’s murder, not realizing Amanda was recording the whole thing and he was later brought up on charges!
