Trevor St. John Opens up About Joining THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS

As reported, Trevor St. John made his debut on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS in the Sept. 28 episode. The soap had been extremely tight-lipped about what role the ONE LIFE TO LIVE alum would be playing on Y&R, and unfortunately, as it was just a brief appearance at the very end of the show, fans were still left hanging about the character’s identity!

Still, St. John, whose last daytime role was playing Victor on OLTL back in 2013, was excited to be back in soaps again. “I was both surprised and flattered,” he told Soap Opera Digest about getting the call from Y&R. “Actually, surprised is not a strong enough word. I was more shocked.”

Having spent the last years in primetime on series like CONTAINMENT, THE FOSTERS, and ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO, readjusting to the hectic pace of daytime was a bit of an adjustment for the actor. But St. John said he settled right into Genoa City. “My first day couldn’t have been better,” he revealed. “Everyone, and I mean that literally, was welcoming and helpful. They’ve created a culture there of generosity and positivity that’s really impressive and makes me feel fortunate to be there.”

St. John was also especially grateful for an encounter with Peter Bergman (Jack) that he had even before he began taping. “I actually ran into him a week or so before my first shooting day while there for a wardrobe fitting,” he explained. “He had been called to set, so he could have easily said, ‘I’ll catch you later,’ but he took the time to stop and properly introduce himself.

“He told me how happy he was that I was doing the role, and without being condescending or self-aggrandizing, generously offered his insights into how to navigate the gig,” St. John continued. “He’s humble, which he doesn’t have to be, and supportive, which he could easily not be considering his status and tenure there. I’m happy to be working with him.”

While Y&R has let nothing slip regarding St. John’s character, the IMDb and Wikipedia seem to have confirmed the popular suspicion among fans that he’s playing a recast of Tucker McCall, the role last played by Stephen Nichols (Steve, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) from 2010-2013. So keep watching to see how he makes the role his own!
