THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS

Who Is Allie on Y&R? — Kelsey Wang Speaks Out! (EXCLUSIVE)

Jack is still trying to get to know his newly-discovered granddaughter but Soaps In Depth chatted with THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS newcomer Kelsey Wang to find out who Allie really is! “Allie never knew about Jack growing up,” she explained. “Never knew she had a grandfather. And so when she meets Jack, it throws her for a complete loop.

“Allie’s just this normal girl,” Wang added. “She’s in grad school right now. So she’s kind of overwhelmed. First of all, her father just died. And second, she kind of just doesn’t know what to do with these people. They’re so, so different from her.”

Discovering she has a family she didn’t know about would already be quite a shock but to find out that they are the wealthy Abbott family from Genoa City? “They’re just a really well-to-do, established family, right?” the actress chuckled. “I think on some level, there’s a sense of, ‘What do they want with me?’ She finds a family but it takes her a second to trust them… more than a second!”

Having grown up to become the independent type, Allie also isn’t really sure she even needs a new family in her life. “She’s kind of on the fence,” Wang allowed. “In one sense, it is her family she never knew she had and she has no other family so she wants to get to know them.” Then she added with a chuckle: “But it also seems like this family has a lot of drama. A lot!”

While Allie may still be unsure of her future, Wang is absolutely thrilled to have joined the cast of Y&R and happily did her research, reading up on Jack and the Abbotts, including Allie’s father, Keemo. “The way that this show has invested in this character,” she enthused, “in the way that they write her, the complex layers, and that she’s Asian-American… but she’s also so much more than that.

“I’m going to get sentimental about this,” Wang confided, emotion filling her voice. “I just think it’s so great. I watched this growing up as a kid and I just think it’s so great to see someone who is all of those things and also Asian. For all those little kids who are watching like me, seven years old… I think CBS and Y&R, they not only have diversity but they invest in the characters so much and they write for them. Which I am so grateful for.”

Stay tuned to Y&R to learn more about Allie and see how she fits into the Abbott family and Genoa City!
