The daytime community lost many bright stars over the course of 2016.
From beloved actors like Larkin Malloy (Travis, ALL MY CHILDREN), Anthony Addabbo (Jim, GUIDING LIGHT), and Joseph Mascolo (Stefano, DAYS OF OUR LIVES), to iconic soap writer/creators Agnes Nixon and Claire Labine, take a look back at some of the performers and creators who died this year.
All of them will be missed, but their work lives on.

Ann Limongello/ABC via Getty Images Actor Mike Minor died on Jan. 25. He appeared on many soaps, but was best known as AMC’s Brandon Kingsley, who was one of Erica Kane’s many lovers over the years.

ABC Photo Archives/ABC via Getty Images George Gaynes, the first actor to play GH’s nefarious villain Frank Smith, passed away in February at the age of 98. He was also beloved for his roles in the Police Academy movies and as the foster dad in the classic sitcom PUNKY BREWSTER.

Aaron Montgomery/jpistudios.com Actor George Kennedy died on Feb. 29 at the age of 91. Best known for his roles in the Airport films, Kennedy also appeared on DALLAS in the ‘80s and as Victor’s father, Albert Miller, on Y&R.

ABC Photo Archives Actor James Noble died in March at 94 after suffering a stroke. Best known as the Governor on the classic sitcom BENSON, Noble launched his career in the ‘60s with roles on soaps like THE EDGE OF NIGHT, A WORLD APART, AS THE WORLD TURNS, and ONE LIFE TO LIVE.

Ann Limongello/ABC via Getty Images Daytime star Larkin Malloy passed away on Sept. 29 at the age of 62 from complications of a heart attack. He appeared on THE EDGE OF NIGHT, GL, and AMC before becoming an acting coach at ATWT.

NBCU Photo Bank Actress Patricia Barry passed away in October at the age of 93. She was best known to daytime audiences as Addie Horton Williams on DAYS as well as her role as Brooke’s adopted mother, Peg English, on AMC. Barry also had roles on GL and LOVING.

Barry King/Liason Daytime vet Anthony Addabbo passed away in October at the age of 56. He was best known to soap fans for his roles of Jim Lemay on GL and Tony “Rush” Carrera on B&B. He was also briefly a Dimitri recast on AMC.

Mike Coppola/Getty Images Emmy Award winning writer Claire Labine passed away in November. She created the classic soap RYAN’S HOPE and wrote for GH, OLTL, and GL. She was responsible for some of the most beloved stories like Maxie receiving BJ’s heart on GH.
