AMC Star Remembers Fickett

Tags:

Having played Ruth and Joe Martin’s adopted son, Tad, for decades on ALL MY CHILDREN, Michael E. Knight developed a close bond with Mary Fickett (Ruth), and like the rest of the daytime world, was saddened to learn of her passing on September 8. “Mary was a very dear friend, and an incredible actress,” the actor tells Soaps In Depth. “Her talent and her warmth were a major part of AMC for years. I have always been grateful for the years I was able to work with her and am deeply saddened by her passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends at such a difficult time. She was dearly loved by so many, many people.”

Fickett was an original AMC cast member, having played beloved nurse Ruth Brent Martin from 1970-1995, and again from 1998-2000. In a statement, the network says “as we honor AMC’s 41 years on ABC, we cannot help but recognize and remember Mary’s wonderful depiction of Pine Valley’s revered Ruth. Ruth’s marriage to chief of staff Dr. Joe Martin provided the bedrock upon which the town of Pine Valley was built. Their marriage was always a stabilizing force that represented “home” for many. In memoriam, the network will dedicate the September 21 episode to Mary, which specifically focuses on the Martins. We extend our deepest sympathy and thoughts to Mary’s family and longtime fans.”
