E! News Spotlights Soaps in ‘Daytime Drama Deep Dive’
Soap fans rejoice! The shows you love will be highlighted on E! News in a special segment, “Daytime Drama Deep Dive,” airing during their news show hosted by Giuliana Rancic and Jason Kennedy on Thursday, May 23, 7-8 pm ET/PT. So set your DVR’s now!
Look for exclusive interviews with GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Laura Wright (Carly), Steve Burton (Jason), and Kristina Wagner (Felicia) who discuss the longevity of GH and the family they’ve created with the viewers who watch them every day on TV. “There’s a reason daytime has been going for 56 years,” Wright declared, celebrating the fans who keep the soaps alive. “It’s so funny, you walk into a fan event, or you meet a fan on the street, and they grab you and hug you like, like you’re their long lost cousin.”
Burton, reflects on his character in the segment, recalling one particular memorable storyline. “The one that pops into my head is we had to catch a monkey that had a virus,” chuckled Burton, “and I said to Laura, ‘I think this is probably the end of my career today.’”
If you’re a Meghan Markle fan, you’ll love this mini segment because casting director Mark Teschner dishes about the now Duchess of Sussex’s first TV appearance in Port Charles. “Meghan Markle had her first speaking role in television on GH,” stated Teschner. “She worked on the show in the background as a nurse, and we brought her up to read her to see if there was something there.”

Also look for interviews with some stars from DAYS OF OUR LIVES and THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS. DAYS’ stars Kristian Alofnso (Hope), Deirdre Hall (Marlena) and Drake Hogestyn (John) discuss the show’s storylines (including Marlena’s infamous possession by the devil!) and, of course, their throngs of loyal fans. “This is one warm, fuzzy place where the audience can come and they can see that we have fought through a lot,” said Hogestyn, “and there’s a lot of hope out there for people.”
E! News’ “Daytime Drama Deep Dive” will also feature Y&R‘s Eric Braeden (Victor) and Tracey E. Bregman (Lauren) looking back at some of their most memorable moments in Genoa City as well as plenty of vintage clips from all the soaps including Luke and Laura’s classic wedding on GH and Victor’s nefarious schemes on Y&R.
