Did Prospect Park Get GH Rights?

Mainstream outlets are buzzing with the news that our friends at Daytime Confidential first reported: In addition to the licensing rights for ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE, Prospect Park has also made a deal with ABC Daytime to move GENERAL HOSPITAL to the Internet — whenever it is that the network broadcast of that soap comes to an end. Although there is no official word yet on when that may happen, Katie Couric‘s new syndicated talk show is set to launch in GH’s timeslot come September 2012. “If we continue to have good ratings, you guys continue to watch, and you tell your friends to watch, we ain’t going nowhere,” Maurice Benard (Sonny) told the crowd at a recent fan event regarding GH’s future on network television. “The only thing that has to happen also, and it’s not a big deal, is that Sonny has to break Katie Couric’s legs!” he quips.

ABC, however, is not yet ready to confirm that Prospect Park has secured the licensing rights for its third soap opera. (They’re not denying it, either.) A spokesperson for the network tells Soaps In Depth that “GH remains a part of our line-up and we don’t discuss the terms of our deals.”
