Cassandra James Can’t Wait for Terry to Have a Romance on GENERAL HOSPITAL
When Cassandra James joined the cast of GENERAL HOSPITAL as Elizabeth’s childhood friend, Dr. Terry Randolph, the fact that she was a pediatric oncologist turned out to be a big clue as to what her upcoming story would be. Now, as Terry becomes more involved in Oscar Nero’s cancer treatment, the actress took to Twitter to answer questions from the viewers, starting with how she landed the gig on GH. “My agent sent me out for the role,” she explained simply. “The casting department gives you a scene to read to see if you’re right for the part. Three auditions later, I got the call!
“I have wanted to be an actress my whole life,” James continued. “I started in community theater when I was only a toddler. I was born in Pasadena but I grew up in Vancouver, Canada. I studied acting at university in Toronto, Canada, and I’ve been back in California for almost two years now.”
One fan wondered what kind of research the actress did before tackling the role of a doctor, and it turned out that the storyline hits close to home for James. “There is someone battling cancer in my family currently so unfortunately, I have some real-life experience to draw from,” she confided. “It’s important to me that Terry be optimistic because I know how dense all the information and treatment options can be.” Still, she also added: “You’d better believe Dr. Terry Randolph is going to do everything in her power to save Oscar!”

Although Terry is obviously going to be involved in Oscar’s brain tumor and treatment, when one viewer asked what kind of storyline she’d like to be involved in, James declared she can’t wait to have scenes outside of the hospital. “I can’t wait for Terry to have a romance in Port Charles,” she said. “I think it’s so important for transgender people to be seen as lovable, datable.”
As a transgender woman, portraying a transgender character is significant to James. “Terry means so much to me and is so important for my beautiful trans community,” she explained. “I feel honored to be contributing positively to this amazing time of trans visibility in Hollywood. I’m so proud of everyone at GH for being so committed to having a trans actor portray this exciting trans character.”
At one point during the Twitter chat, a fan expressed how pleased they were to see a storyline like this on television because their longtime friend’s son had no support when he came out and everyone turned their back on him when he transitioned. “I’m sorry to hear this,” James expressed. “I hope your friend and her daughter have found a network of love and support. Sending love!”
James added that she is having an absolute blast at GH. “Whenever my agent calls and says I’ve got another day on set, I get so excited!” she gushed.
