General Hospital's Chris Van Etten Mourns the Death of His Mother

Please join us in sending love to GENERAL HOSPITAL actor Chris Van Etten (Chet), who is mourning the loss of his mother who has lost her long-fought battle with cancer. “My entire life you have shown me what strength and unconditional love is,” he declared in a heartfelt Instagram post containing photos of him and his mom through the years. “In my weakest moments, you were there to pick me up. In my strongest, you were always there to cheer me on. Everything I am is because of how you raised me. I can’t really imagine what my life is going to be like without you, but know that I will always have you in my heart. Rest in peace, momma. I love you.”

In an Instagram post from 2015, Van Etten revealed that his mother had been battling cancer since 2005, and in August 2017, shared that she had beaten her cancer for a second time. But in September of 2019, he reported that her breast cancer had spread to her lungs. “Metastatic breast cancer of the lung,” he wrote. “This time last year, we were celebrating the fact that my mom had beaten breast cancer for the second time. A few months later, when my mom started having a hard time breathing, we found out cancer cells had unfortunately spread to her lungs.”

In that post, Van Etten shared a video of his mother’s emotional reaction when he surprised her with a visit home, declaring, “She’s always been a symbol of strength for those that meet her.”

Metastatic breast cancer of the lung. This time last year, we were celebrating the fact my mom had beaten breast cancer for the 2nd time. A few months later, when my mom started having a hard time breathing, we found out cancer cells had unfortunately spread to her lungs. It's been a year with a lot of ups and downs for our family, as anyone who has been in a similar situation knows, and things like posting on social media become a low priority. But I do want to take a minute and let everyone know how badass this lady is. Her fight has been extremely tough, and there are a lot of unknowns for the future. But anyone who knows her, knows that she is too stubborn to give up. She's always been a symbol of strength for our family and those that meet her. That being said, family should always be there for each other, so I surprised her with a trip home. Big thanks to my parents' dog Bailey for ruining the moment. 😂
