Although GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Sasha is covering up Valentin and Obrecht’s roles in the lie about her maternity, it doesn’t change the fact that, at the end of the day, Nina’s dreams of being a mom have been dashed. Or have they? Could the Crimson editor’s daughter be another young woman living in Port Charles? When Sasha first agreed to pretend to be Nina’s child, “she didn’t really understand how big this was going to be and just got in so deep,” portrayer Sofia Mattsson sighed to Soaps In Depth. “Sasha fell for Nina and everyone in town.”
Ultimately, Sasha was so tortured by the lie she was perpetuating for Valentin that she planned to confess. Unfortunately, she was beaten to the punch when Lulu dropped the maternity bombshell at Nina and Valentin’s wedding. And though Nina has since reunited with Valentin, she can’t seem to stop spewing hate at the young woman she once believed to be her flesh and blood. “It’s heartbreaking,” Mattsson said. But Sasha remains so committed to Nina’s happiness that she’s refusing to blow up her world — and thus redeem herself! — by telling the truth about Valentin and Obrecht’s involvement in the scam.
Thankfully, Sasha has Michael in her corner, and Willow even had her back during one of Nina’s attacks. But the theory that Nina’s daughter is actually still alive runs rampant among viewers… as well as between Mattsson and Wilow’s portrayer, Katelyn MacMullen! After all, speculation that the schoolteacher just might be Nina’s long-lost daughter has persisted ever since Willow and Charlotte’s stepmom first clashed. “That would be insane,” MacMullen raved. “It would be a huge twist… except people are expecting it, right? Because why do Willow and Nina hate each other so much? It’d be cool!”
And sure, Sasha passed three supposedly-faked DNA tests… but in soapland, there’s always the possibility that she could still be Nina’s offspring. “What if [Sasha and Willow] could be twins?” pondered MacMullen. “Who knows how it’s going to play out? There are so many possible outcomes. But Sofia and I want a storyline together.”
Mattsson agrees becoming on-screen sisters would be the “best-case scenario” — and it would certainly be better than Sasha coming between Willow and Chase! “I don’t know if you’d ever want to mess with that,” she laughed, adding that this story is far from over. “There are a lot of secrets that have not come out yet. I don’t know them… but I know they exist. A lot of cool things are going to happen.”
