GH’s Kirsten Storms Fires Back at Fans Criticizing Her Weight

Tags:

Soap fans love discussing their favorite shows and characters, but also the actors. However, sometimes it seems that they forget that those actors are also real people with real feelings, and GENERAL HOSPITAL star Kirsten Storms (Maxie) spoke out against the constant comments on social media regarding her health and weight. She shared a selfie taken in the mirror at Target where she was shopping for her daughter, Harper, and then described the ensemble she was rocking (loving the Gucci bag!). But when one fan commented that this couldn’t be a recent picture, and another declared that the actress had gained a lot of weight since this photo, Storms couldn’t remain quiet any longer.

“I’ve gained a lot of weight since this afternoon when I took this picture?” she responded. “Look, I know what she was saying with her comment. Details about my health and medical conditions are nobody’s business, so I won’t go into my temporary weight gain to satisfy anyone’s thirst. However, I will say that it’s sad to see some people focus only on the status of my body (and when focusing on weight it is never meant in a positive way. ‘Losing’ or ‘gaining’ — it’s a judgement and it’s shameful). I’m healthy and I feel good — at any size, which is what matters to me the most. Comments with a snarky undertone only make me feel sad for the person who typed it and I truly hope their life sucks less tomorrow.”

Not only did Storms immediately receive love and support from her true fans in response, she also got some from GH castmate Maurice Benard (Sonny) as the story spread across social media. “It’s easy for people to criticize because it makes them feel a certain way,” the actor tweeted. “Don’t judge until you’ve lived in someone’s shoes Kirsten is not only absolutely beautiful, but more importantly, incredibly brave.” Storms responded to his tweet with a simple heart emoji that said all that needed to be said.

Back in February of 2018, Storms had to speak out to inform fans that although her character of Maxie was expecting on GH, she was not pregnant in real life, despite her love of wearing baggy clothing. She snapped a selfie to show her figure and urged fans to speak online like they would if they were actually face-to-face with the person. Hopefully, one day that will be the way people behave.
