Matt Cohen Says Goodbye to General Hospital

Hunky priest-turned-doctor Griffin Monroe made his debut in February of 2016 and proved popular with fans, but now Matt Cohen has left GENERAL HOSPITAL. When his final episode aired on March 22, it was also the same day that The CW announced that SUPERNATURAL — where he played a young John Winchester in numerous episodes — would be coming to an end after 15 seasons. “Tough day, emotionally,” Cohen confided on Twitter. “My last episode of GH aired. And SUPERNATURAL announced its final season. I am grateful to all the fantastic casts, crews, and fandoms I have been able to meet along the way. It’s all those experiences that have helped me grow into the man I am today.”

Maura West (Ava), who was Cohen’s on-screen love interest on GH for a time, expressed how much she would miss working with him. “Ava had a boyfriend for a while,” she tweeted. “I’ve got a friend for life. I love you, Matt. See you in the backyard. XXXOX” Cohen replied: “I love you! I’m already in the yard. #creeper”

Risa Dorken, who plays nurse Amy Driscoll on the soap, also said a heartfelt farewell to her castmate. “Wishing Matt the best on his next adventure! From the way he treats everyone he meets, to the advice he gave me on my first day shooting GH, I’ve learned so much from you, Matt,” she declared on Twitter. “The nurses hub won’t be the same without bumping into you! Grateful for the memories.”

Griffin’s exit was left open for a possible return, so there’s every possibility that Cohen could reprise the role at some point in the future. But for now, he’s shopping his short film Mama Bear around to film festivals in the hopes of turning it into a feature.
